Loire

The Valley of the Loire, to the West of France, is often considered as the most beautiful French wine region. The region follows the river, starting in the Auvergne and Massif Central and finishing in the Atlantic coast around Nantes city. With its rivers and hills, castles (chateaux) and immaculate gardens, it is arguably the most scenic of France’s wine regions. The Loire is home to some of the finest wine, such as Sancerre, Muscadet, Pouilly, Bourgueil and Anjou. There are a large number of different grape varieties in Loire, some of which dominate different parts of the region. White grape varieties include: Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne, Folle Blanche, Aligoté and Chasselas. The main red wine grape grown in the Loire is Cabernet Franc.
