Situated to the east of Cape Town, next to Worcester, Robertson lies along the fertile Breede River valley. The lime-rich soils and warm climate have provided the region with all the necessary attributes required to produce outstanding wines. Renowned for the production of exceptional dessert wines, the region also produces some outstanding white wines, especially Chardonnay, Colombar and Sauvignon Blanc. However, the region has also started to establish a name for itself in regards to reds, such as Shiraz (Zandvliet) as well as Cap Classique sparkling wines. Robertson Wine Valley, the organisation representing wine growers in the region, has 32 members, including 11 co-operatives, 14 estates and 7 private producers.
